Chinatown...

This weekend we took the fam down to Chinatown. It's been my favorite thing that we've done so far. I loved seeing all the locals, bargaining for little trinkets in the many shophouses, and feeling fully immersed in the culture. The town itself is basically bunch of restored shophouses full of strange little shops selling everything from plastic Buddhas to dried seahorses.

Buddah Tooth Relic Temple
This four-story temple was completed in 2007. The imposing main hall hosts a 27-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha. The sacred relic itself is reputedly one of Buddha Shakyamuni's own teeth.

You can play Where's Waldo and find Grammy in the above picture...hint she's wearing a light blue shirt.
Sri Mariamman Temple
The following is a picture of the intricately carved gopuram (statuary above the entrance).
This is Singapore's oldest and most important Hindu temple and is still active. The let you go inside once you've taken off your shoes and it was very interesting to see their ceremonies and traditions.
The following pictures are of the town itself...

Dried sea horses? What on earth do you do with a dried sea horse? I hope you got several Buddah statues to fill your house with, at least one for every room!

I love how people just stare at you cute cute kids. The one with you pushing Ava, the couple are smiling and looking. Just look at the celebrity status you hold.

I am glad you went to China town, it would be amazing. I am happy your mom is there too!

Miss you - you seem so far away. :)
