Yesterday was Mayah's first day of Kindergarten...yikes! I can hardly believe I have a kid old enough to be in elementary school or maybe I should say I can hardly believe I'm old enough to have a kid in elementary school!! She's been looking forward to this day for some time now. The only apprehension I've ever seen from her about going to Kindergarten was the night before the big day when she expressed her concerns about getting a "C" on her tests. I quickly explained that that is not quite how kindergarten works and that it'll pretty much be playing with friends all day long. We found out that she was required to wear a uniform the day before school started...how I missed that one I have no idea! I was pretty bugged too because now I have to spend all this money on clothes that are totally not cute and she won't get to wear all the girly girl stuff she has...luckily Friday's are "free days" and she can wear whatever she wants! At least now the kids can concentrate on the important things like learning and not on how they look....WHATEVER!!! You can see where my priorities are...j/k. So after a late night trip to good ole Target Mayah finally went to sleep. I was so excited to hear about her day when I picked her up. She was acting kind of down and said that she was a little sad because her teacher wouldn't let her finish her art project and that she wouldn't let her take it home to give to me. She has a good attention span so when she sits down to do something, especially art projects, she takes her time to make everything perfect. I told Mayah that her teacher probably wanted to hang up the picture in the classroom, but she just replied, with tears in her eyes "I know, but I just really wanted to bring something home for you because I know how much you love my artwork". Of course, my eyes welled up and I could barely keep the tears from flowing out (I was sad enough as it was that she was going to elementary school, let alone the fact that she was so sad about this "incident") I mean all the girl wanted was to bring mommy a present!! Who could blame her for that?!
