Jog-A-Thon

If any of you know our Mayah you know how extremely competitive she is. Well she's been looking forward to her school's jog-a-thon forever...even planning what she wanted to wear and what she "needed" to eat for breakfast so she could do her best. I'm sure what she really meant by "doing her best" was beating everybody else. This is a small lesson we've been trying to teach her forever ~ that it isn't always about winning and that you can't win everything. She hasn't really taken that lesson to heart yet, but we're working on it. (I'm even talking tears if she doesn't win the games we play as a family! Major drama with our little Mayah.)

She did come home the past two weeks after gym class and inform us that she beat both the boys and the girls in the 3 lap race around the field...she was quite proud of that one. She then went on to tell me her technique for winning... She said she just lets her legs go free and go as fast as they could...okay, whatever that means??!! I told her track and field might be her sport just like my BFF Jamie. I remember Jamie, Nkechi and I running races against our class back in elementary school on field day and in gym. Jamie and Nkechi would always get 1st and 2nd, but I would always be 3rd...I was happy with third b/c I beat the rest of the class, but I always wished I could beat Jamie just one time!!

Warming up and getting ready for the big Jog-A-Thon. I kept telling her it wasn't a race so she would pace herself b/c they would be jogging for 30 min. They raised money for the school for each lap they completed.

Run, Mayah, run!
Mayah's teacher giving her and her good friend Elina bunny ears...bunny ears are "totally in" in the first grade circle.

So fun. I remember doing all those things back in the day when running was fun. :)
