Happy Birthday Connor! You bring so much happiness and fun into our home and are the cutest little boy I've ever seen in my life :-) Your personality is so caring and sincere that it gives me a glimpse of the amazing little man you'll be sooner than I want to admit. I don't know what we'd do without you in our lives...you're such a little peacemaker and make everyday worth waking up for!!
For Connor's birthday "party" we went to the zoo and the Night Safari that is really popular here in Singapore. The zoo just opened this really cool splash park that we wanted to check out and figured this would be the perfect time, but when we got there all geared up in our suits and everything we were told that all the "water features" were under maintenance...annoying to say the least! So we settled for wandering around the zoo to check out some of the animals before it was time for dinner and the Night Safari, we still had a good time despite the let down. The safari was really cool b/c you ride around in this tram in the dark and it takes you right up close to all of the nocturnal animals. There were even animals, like Asian deer, Tapirs (big ugly animals that have an elephant like snout), and an elephant, that were a couple of feet away from the tram just wandering around! Connor's favorites were of course the lions and tigers. Grammy went with us as her last hurrah here in SG. She left early, early the next morning and we were all so sad to see her go :-( Those 6 weeks went by really fast for me and it was great having her here to play with the kids and keep me company.
And here are some random thoughts by Connor Mike that I wanted to record...Connor has this obsession with asking about when he gets to do his favorite things, I think I may have mentioned that before. Well, he's just added another one to his list... "Santa coming to my house?" This past week he has rediscovered the joy of Santa and won't go for more than an hour without asking if Santa is coming to our house or if Santa will be bringing him a certain toy. So as he puts up his little fingers and asks for reassurance about his favorite things this is what we hear "Mickey's house soon?" (one little finger goes up). "Burger, shakes, fries soon?" (another little finger goes up). "Santa come a my house soon?" (third little finger goes up). It is part of his nightly routine where we'll put him to bed, then about 5 minutes later he'll come out of his room and whisper his wish list really quietly in our ears. All we have to say is "soon, Connor, soon" and he'll be right off to bed with an "okay mom." All of this randomness was prompted by the following little blurb of a conversation between Connor and Ava, well between Connor and himself really...
Connor to Ava: "Don't a break my track Ava! Santa not a happy wif you. My Santa come to my house tomorrow."
Santa has become quite the bargaining tool with Connor lately, it works like a charm if I tell him that he needs to be a good listener or Santa just might not make it to our house on Christmas morn'.
Another cute thing he says out of the blue to us all the time is "I just love you guys." He is so sincere when he says this and it breaks my heart with cuteness each and every time....he really knows how to get on our good side and/or get what he wants!! He is really into being what I like to call "a good listener". If I ever tell him he's not being a good listener he gets really upset/concerned and quickly makes amends...he is also the quickest kid I've ever seen to say "sorry". If I give him "the look" where he knows I'm not pleased with the decision he made he will immediately say "sawwy mommy" ("sorry mommy") or "sawwy mama", with the biggest puppy dog eyes you've ever seen. I could never stay upset at that! I am such a push over when it comes to my little boy, I already know I'm in for it as he gets older! I can definitely tell that year after year as my mom experience piles up my kids get away with more and more. I think it's because I am realizing that 1) they grow up way too fast, 2) they are kids and are expected to make mistakes, 3) I must pick my battles or else I would always be getting on their cases, 4) in a few short years I'll be looking back at the "issues" I have with my kids now and wish it was still that easy.
That's all in birthday news for us!! We'll see you next year :-) I have to admit that while I do love this time of year when we are busy celebrating all the birthdays at once and making everyone feel so special for their birthday "week" it is definitely nice knowing I don't have to think about it for a whole year!! We'll for sure be doing the group birthday party again next year...bounce house anyone??
